Jacob talks in verse 6 about them having much revelation and
prophecy so they knew about Christ’s and his kingdom that should come, so they
labor to let people know because they knew. At first I was thinking about how
they were amazing men to know those things so far in advance. But a moment
later the Spirit witnessed to me that we, that I know those things, too. That
is the time we live in, and why we do what we do. Because we know Christ and
his kingdom are coming. That really is the crux of it all right there. That’s
what I need to remember as I am trying to teach my children, and fulfill my
callings. That’s what this is about.
It’s interesting that when the Nephites start to fall away
under the reign of the second king it’s pride, sex, and money. Isn’t it always
that?
It also strikes me as important that Jacob says he received
his calling from the Lord before he started to teach the people to repent. I
think maybe that is the difference between when we are just supposed to love
people and when we are supposed to call them to repentance. And why it feels so
wrong sometimes.
Am I laboring with my might?
