I was struck with the therefore in verse 1. The reason Nephi
was taught the learning of his father was because his parents were goodly.
Teaching our children is so important to being goodly parents.
I also thought a lot about Lehi as I read this chapter, and
what gave him such spiritual strength and why he was chose to receive such
great blessings. First, he believed the prophets that were in the city
testifying. You know this because he was praying for his people based on what
they had said. Second, that he cared about his people so much, a mark of a
great leader. And then, even though he had seen the book of prophecy and knew
what was coming, and he knew the people had been killing the prophets, he still
went and preached about the things he had seen and heard. I think that is why
the Lord blessed him with those visions, because he knew Lehi had the faith to
act on revelation.
That struck me as a key to receiving greater revelation in
my own life: to be more ready to act on the promptings I do receive.
