1 Nephi 6

It’s interesting to note that Nephi knew that an exact genealogy would be pleasing unto the world, as far as “proving” the authenticity of the Book of Mormon.

Why is the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob? Why are those three so significant? I know God made covenants with Abraham and Jacob is the father of the 12 tribes, is Isaac just the connection between those two? What’s the significance of mentioning all three? It’s even how God introduced himself to Moses (Exodus 3:6). And Christ introduced himself that way when He was here, as well. (Matthew 22:;32) though that makes the most sense to me since it was how the Jews would know Him and who He claimed to be.

I guess between Noah and Abraham, there were no patriarchs, and after Abraham, there were no prophets in this line. Maybe that is why these three are so significant in the history of the world. (Luke 3:23-38 – genealogy of Christ to Adam) Saying “The God of Adam” may have just been too far removed. But these three were close and personal, and an important part of each of the house of Israel’s genealogy. It was a lineage of prophets they all shared.
